Founded by William E Aubuchon in 1908, Aubuchon Hardware is the oldest family-owned and managed Hardware Store chain in America. With more than 100 stores in New England and Upstate NY, we've been a local mainstay for generations. Over the years we've grown, but we still earn our customer's trust and loyalty the old fashioned way: By having the items you need, at prices you can afford, with the convenient shopping experience and friendly, knowledgeable service you expect. Aubuchon Hardware is a member of the Aubuchon Company family of brands.

In the late 1940's, almost the entire Aubuchon workforce poses outside the original headquarters on 28 Rollstone Street in Fitchburg, MA. This location, also known as warehouse B, distributed merchandise to the stores and also contained the main offices.

After retirement, he served on the board of directors of the W.E. Aubuchon Company for many years.

This is the fourth Fitchburg location for store No. 1 as it looked around 1960. In the late 1940's William E. Aubuchon Jr. had tried to lease or purchase the building at 146 Fairmont Street, but negotiations were not successful. The building at 85 Fairmont Street was purchased in 1949, and the store was moved. Apartments above the store were remodeled and rented. As with all the other store locations that included apartments, the store manager acted as the landlord.

In this building, truckloads of merchandise are unloaded and put away by workers called receivers. Other employees, called pickers, gather together a store's order. The order is loaded into a truck and is delivered to a store by an Aubuchon truck driver.
